Raiders were promoted from National 2 South two years ago, when they won 24 of their 28 league matches and then the play-off at Stourbridge.

A tough campaign followed in National 1 last year when Worthing won just seven games and lost 23.

Smith said Raiders have lost that winning mentality of two years ago but insists there is nothing to worry about.

He said: “It was a very frustrating defeat. We got off to a great start but they were fired up and that just geed them up even more and they came back hard.

“We made a few crucial mistakes at crucial times, which cost us possession and position.

“We had enough chances to have finished them off but we couldn’t quite do it.

“It’s a massive learning curve for us.

“Coming off the back of last season, we’ve lost that winning mentality from the season before.

“There were lots of positives for us to take from the game, though, and Harry Forrest and Alex Nielsen both played well.

“We still got two points from the game and there’s nothing major to worry about.”

Raiders are away to Dorking on Saturday and Smith said: “It’s going to be another tough game as there are going to be five or six very strong teams this season and they’ll be in the mix as well.”
