The 20-year-old from Hastings helped steer YHL to third place in the second and final session of the Women’s British League Premier Division at Doncaster Leisure Park last weekend.

The Weald TTC (Cranbrook) member and Nottingham University student won seven of her 10 singles matches. Her best results were beating England no.6 Emma Vickers (Derbyshire) 3-1 and Guernsey star Alice Loveridge 3-0 against the league runners-up Draycott East Midlands.

King will have been disappointed, however, to lose 5-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 8-11 to England no.21 Sophie Neil (Nottinghamshire), representing Burton Uxbridge.

And against league champions Ormesby, King had a chance of overcoming Maria Tsaptsinos (Berkshire), with whom she shares the England no.7 ranking, in straight games before succumbing in five.

Her third loss was to England no.4 Karina Le Fevre (Cleveland), playing for Ormesby.
