Leah continues unbeaten record with two more wins

She won the Deal Regatta on Saturday and then on Sunday was victorious at the Coast Amateur Rowing Association’s Regatta, also held at Deal.

Colclough also stroked the Worthing women’s senior four to victory on Saturday, winning by a length to Shoreham and Deal.

The sea was rough and the course at Deal includes two buoy turns, which is difficult to negotiate in big waves as the boat is in danger of being swamped. It has to be turned through 180 degrees making it vulnerable to broadside waves.

Sophie McEwen managed to negotiate an excellent turn as they went in to the first buoy in fifth position and came out second. They then pushed their way into first after the second buoy turn.

The same crew of Colclough, Jordan Simper, Natalie Holden and Brianne Considine, coxed by McEwen, could not hold off Shoreham and Deal on the Sunday. They came a close third, missing out on second place by about three inches.

Worthing’s strong novice men’s crew were unable to race as they were a man down, missing Zoli Hercz, but hope to reform for the Southsea Regatta this coming Saturday. They need one more win to secure their novice medals and a place in the junior status.
