WORTHING Harriers athlete Emma Macready sealed her spot as one of the UK’s best championship performers, by taking the English national title at Bedford at the weekend, competing in the 3,000m steeplechase.

She took three titles in one, with the English Championships combining with those of the Amateur Athletics Association (AAAs) and Inter Counties, to make this one of the biggest and most prestigious events of its type.

Macready, who had already won the South of England title and finished second in the British Championships, dominated the race from the outset and won in a new personal best time.

She said: “I felt great from the start and after just three laps I found myself some 30 metres in front, so I just kept pushing.”

The lead grew to over 100 metres by the end, with the only hiccup to an almost perfect run being a slight stumble on the last water jump.

Asked what comes next, Macready said: “That’s it, pretty much, for the track season, but I will be running in the World Mountain Trials in Wales in three weeks’ time to, hopefully, make the British team.

“Apart from that it will be back to running YNM Fitness Kids Camps over the summer holidays and bootcamps for the adults most evenings.”
