FINDON’S Olympic hero Tina Cook has been named in the GB Team for the 2013 European Eventing Championships.

The 42-year-old eventer – who helped secure Team GB a silver medal in last summer’s London Olympics – has been selected in the six-man team for the event in Malmö, in Sweden, at the end of August.

The mother of two has represented Britain at the last two Olympic Games in addition to many other top international accolades on Miners Frolic.

Cook, who also won two bronze medals in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, said: “I always find it such a wonderful privilege to be representing my country, so, of course, I am thrilled to be selected again on Henry [Miners Frolic].

“He is getting a bit older now so every competition and selection is a fantastic bonus.”

Cook will be joined by London 2012 team-mates William Fox-Pitt and Piggy French, along with Tom McEwen, Izzy Taylor and Lucy Wiegersma.

Eventing performance manager Yogi Breisner said: “It is a very exciting squad that has been selected for this year’s European Championships.

“It is great to have Piggy and Lucy back on the squad, and it is exciting to have two such capable riders as Tom and Izzy making their debut. With Tina and William also on the squad there is a wonderful balance between youth and experience.”

All riders will compete as individuals at the championships, with four riders selected to compete in the team competition. The event starts on August 28 and runs until September 1.
