WORTHING seafront will host a large kitesurfing event on Saturday, July 14.

The Big Air Open Kitesurfing Classic has been organised as part of the Olympic torch relay weekend and it is set to become a classic kitesurfing event well beyond the Olympic year.

Based on a “how high can you jump format”, points will be awarded for the maximum height reached and the overall champion will be taking home a cash prize, as well as the sought-after title of Big Air Open champion 2012.

A total of 36 kitesurfers will be competing and the organisers have announced that places for the event is sold out.

The format of The Big Air Open is based on a total of 28 heats, with the winner determined by a final heat of three riders.

The event takes place from 9am to 6pm on Worthing seafront, opposite Marine Gardens. Spectators are welcome to head along and watch the action and cheer on the competitors.
