WEST SUSSEX Bowls Touring Club have recently returned from their 60th annual tour, which this year took place in Devon.
The club stayed at The Manor Hotel in Exmouth, which is a favourite venue of the club having stayed there in 2000, 2005 and 2010.
President Chris Rolph, travelling on his 32nd tour, and captain Ned Waddock enjoyed the company of 39 other members on what was another successful tour both on and off the green.
Rain, although heavy at times, did not materialise during the matches and most were played in warm sunshine.
The club won six of the seven games they played and only lost by two shots to the strong Topsham Bowling Club.
The player of the tour award went to club treasurer Jon Clear, with an average daily score of plus-12.00. He narrowly beat Paul Chivers and Kevin Mitchell, who were second and third respectively.
Six of this year’s party have now travelled on 20 or more tours and a further 12 members have travelled on ten or more.
In 2016, the club will travel to a new venue and county, when they venture to Scarborough in Yorkshire.
The top rink of the week was on the first day at Ottery St Mary, when Chivers, Bill Bryder, Michael Booth and Gareth Beven won 36-10.
