Nominations open for Sports Awards

NOMINATIONS for the 2014 Sussex Sports Awards are now open.

The event is now in its 12th year and nominations can be made until noon on Friday, October 17. The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 21, at The Grand Hotel when the event will celebrate the achievements and success stories from individuals, teams and clubs involved in Sussex sport and also boasts two new award categories.

Previous Worthing-based winners include London 2012 Olympic silver medallist Tina Cook who, in 2012, won the sports personality of the year award and, in the same year, Ashcombe under-18 women’s volleyball team were named the young team of the year.

The special guest at the prestigious event will be former freestyle and butterfly swimmer, Mark Foster.

Foster has six World Championship titles, two Commonwealth titles and ten European titles to his name. He will be on hand to introduce the winners and discuss both his sporting and media experiences as he aims to inspire the audience.

The two new awards are primary school of the year and Sportivate project of the year.

The other categories are workplace health award, coach of the year, volunteer of the year, unsung hero, club of the year, team of the year, young team of the year, disabled sports personality of the year, young sports personality of the year, personality of the year and outstanding contribution to sport.

Nominations can be made on www.activesussex.org/sportsawards/nomination-form. The awards shortlist will be announced on October 24.
