Father spotted in council picture

A SHOREHAM reader spotted her father in this photograph of Southwick Urban District Council in 1953, featured in the Shoreham Herald on March 28.

Marj Upton said: “My father worked for the council then and the photo seems to include my dad, Cecil Upton.

“I do not know when he started at the Town Hall but he was there until the early 1960s.”

The photo is part of Shoreham historian Ted Heasman’s collection and shows the members in the Town Hall council chamber.

The full list of names does indeed include Mr Upton, seated at the top table, second right. He is listed as the housing manager.
