Upper Beeding floods not as bad as at the start of the millennium
It is not unusual for the meadows on either side of the Adur to flood in winter, all the way from Henfield to Upper Beeding, acting as a safety-valve and helping to prevent flooding downstream.
As long as the area is not built upon, it will remain as summer pasture, which becomes a haven for wildlife in winter and a beautiful place to walk at any time of year.
In November 2000 the floods were deeper than so far this year and boys were canoeing over flooded fields.
This year, there are hundreds of grey-lag geese nearby.
