Despite the difficult season in which sailors have had to comply with coronavirus restrictions, it was a great turnout, involving members as young as 11, for the annual event in memory of Olympic sailor Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson.

Bart’s Bash is a global sailing race taking place at hundreds of venues, with thousands of sailors in many different classes of boat around the world.

Founded in 2014, the event was verified by Guinness World Records as the largest sailing Race in the World’.

Arun Youth Aqua Centre has been involved every year, but this time they had their biggest turnout, and some great racing.

With gorgeous September sunshine and a good south-westerly force three, Roger Elliman, the race officer for the event, ran two fleets of three races to find the winner of AYAC Bart’s Bash 2020.

Amy, in a Topper, stole the win for the slow fleet, with some super boat control, and Katrina took the first place in the fast fleet, in her Laser.
