Sussex riflemen finish in British championship top ten

The results of the final of the British short range championship for the 2019/20 season have recently been published after a lengthy delay.

Four Sussex riflemen had qualified for the 20-competitor final and the cards had to be shot at short range, usually 25 yards, and returned to the scorer by autumn 2020.

The winner of the British short range championship was Wendy Foith from Bedford with a score of 398 ex 400 (99, 100, 99, 100) beating Scottish junior rifleman, Ollie Barron from Watsonian, who also scored 398 (100, 99, 100, 99) on the basis that she had a better finish.

Top Sussex shot was 6th placed Adam Cornbill, shooting for Chichester, who scored 396 (98, 99, 100, 99) who beat Fittleworth’s Rob Dowling 396 (99, 99, 99, 99) into seventh position also by virtue of a better finish).

Hamish Matheson of Chichester finished 10th with a score of 394, narrowly beating East Grinstead’s Charles White, 393, into 11th position.

Chichester’s Hamish Matheson also reached the final of the Scottish short range championship which was won by Watsonian rifleman Ollie Barron, 397, who narrowly beat fellow club mate J. Barron, 397, on the strength of a stronger finish. Matheson finished in a commendable 6th position with a score of 392.
