From Worthing to North Carolina for basketball star - but first to Surrey

Hildreth made his debut for Thunder last season and has lived up to his nickname “Killa Cam” averaging 20.6 points, six rebounds and 3.1 assists last season as well playing for Holy Trinity Storm in the ABL.

He was named MVP of the Southern Conference and played for Sussex Storms under-18s.

This season he is averaging 26 points and has been selected for GB’s men’s team at just 18.

Hildreth said: “I cannot thank Zaire Taylor and the Thunder programme enough for the opportunity they provided me over the last two years. Giving me the freedom to play my game definitely helped with my exposure and the attention it caused.

“This year has been really tough for me mentally as I know it will have been for many others. I’ve struggled with the lack of opportunity to play regularly and develop my game further.

“Last year I had played 54 games for Sussex Storm, Holy Trinity school and Worthing Thunder. This year I have played nine. I don’t think I am playing to my potential and the circumstances at Surrey give me a better opportunity to do that. The fans have been amazing.”

Thunder director Taylor said: “Cam’s presence on the court will be missed, but for him to have opportunities to further prepare himself for all his future endeavours is something I truly support.

“I wish him the best of luck for the remainder of the season and for Cam when he heads stateside.”
