Crathern competed in the slalom discipline for the first time, which is a quick downwind race with up to ten racers at a time.

Tangles, crashes and collisions can all take place as racers make their way through the course, which involves negotiating four buoys at top speed. On the first day, Crathern finished well and a strong showing on the last day saw him finish in third place.

He said: “When they announced me as third place, I was so happy. It is my first podium on the PKRA World Tour and it felt great to finally stand there.

“I also competed in the freestyle event, which I really enjoyed. With the racing, it’s all about going as fast as possible and getting the best start but freestyle is more about holding it together. It was great fun to be out there again and competing against the top guys in the world.”

Crathern was also in Taiwan last month for the Kiteboard Tour Asia, which he commented on and also ran some kitesurfing clinics. He also did commentary and voiceovers for the PKRA World Tour event in China.
