Priory host popular Cricket Week

AROUND 120 children donned whites to take part in another successful annual Hastings Priory Cricket Week.

"It's an introduction to cricket, making sure it's as much fun as possible," outlined co-ordinator Ian Gillespie.

"It's proved very popular, it seems to always fill up very quickly. We've had similar figures for the last couple of years and they've had a fantastic time, it's going really well. We first did it in 1990 and it's as popular now as it's ever been."

Much of the five days are spent playing matches but the youngsters, around half of whom are club members, also benefit from the expertise of the six well-respected coaches which include Gillespie, Tim van Noort and Priory overseas ace Jono McLean. And at the end of it many receive prizes in the form of cricketing kit for their performances throughout the week.

But this is not just a one off event. The club runs a similar programme involving around 80 to 100 boys and girls every Friday evening during the course of the schools' summer term as part of its commitment to youth cricket.
