Former England captain Will Carling, who judged the competition, decided that Redmayne’s run in to finish off a move started by scrum-half Calum Waters in the Worthing 22 was the stand-out try.

He said: “They’re under pressure but the scrum-half decides they’re going to play a bit with a great inside ball to the wing, who manages to link up with the midfield.

“They keep the ball alive with some good angles and good lines from the forwards and actually a nice little piece of skill, and over for a great try.”

Raiders won the game 32-27, which ended Dorking’s 14-game winning run, and speaking to www.englandrugby.com, Raiders player-manager Matt Farnes said: “It was obviously a brilliant try, and it fits with our philosophy at Worthing where we believe that we can score from anywhere on the pitch. I think Jamie’s try really proved that.

“We entered the competition before and made it on to the shortlist. This winning try was very similar in style, started from within our own 22.”

“It was a really tight game against Dorking, and that try was the one that put us two scores up, so it pretty much won us the match.

“Dorking were undefeated in 14 games when they came to us, so it was a huge victory.”

The Samsung Try of the Month competition is open to all levels of rugby below the Greene King IPA Championship, including all ages, men and women, boys and girls, touch, tag or contact rugby.

Raiders will now receive £1,000 worth of Samsung products for taking the top prize.
