Army teams dominate in Worthing 7s tournament

THE Army teams dominated an action-packed day of rugby on Saturday in Worthing Rugby Club’s annual 7s competition.

The Army teams won both the men and women’s elite competitions on the day as up to 1,000 people were at the ground, playing, working and watching.

There was some success for the Worthing Raiders 7s team as they won the open competition plate event, and Raiders chairman David Hinchliffe said of the day: “It was really good.

“The weather was kind to us and it was a great day of rugby, with everyone having fun.”

The club are looking at the possibility of having a two-day 7s competition from next year and Hinchliffe said: “We’re looking at expanding it to a two-day competition.

“We’ll have a de-brief about how things went on Saturday and then talk to see if we can extend it to a weekend of rugby.

“That would, possibly, allow us to also have more teams enter into the tournaments.
