THE SUSSEX League's early start to the season arrives on Saturday.

Our three local first-division sides all begin their bids for solid seasons.

Pagham, who won their first 14 games last season, aim to hit the ground running when they host Dorking at Nyetimber Lane.

Selsey, under new boss Richard Towers, go to AFC Uckfield, while Chichester – reprieved after winning their appeal over relegation to division two – visit Redhill.

Chichester joint managers Neil Sherlock and Alex Twitchen can’t wait to get started.

Sherlock said: “Alex and myself are delighted with playing in division one this season, not just for the club but for our players.

“We have two young squads – the first team playing in the Sussex League and the development squad playing in the Suburban League.

“Playing in these divisions will support the long-term playing development of each player, improving their knowledge, ability and attitude of of the game.

“I urge the people of Chichester to support and get behind these players and the club as the majority are local lads progressing through the game.”
