Chisholm is aiming to secure Raiders safety

The on-loan Harlequins Academy back-rower returned for Worthing Raiders on Saturday to help them secure a crucial victory against basement side Hull Ionians.

The 18-year-old, from Haywards Heath, has been loaned to Raiders this season from the Aviva Premiership side and has also made an impressive breakthrough into the England under-20s side.

It was a welcome sight to see the young prodigy, whose brother, Ross, is also on Quins’ books, back in a Raiders shirt, after he had missed five games through duties at his parent club and England.

Despite making three starts for the under-20s in the Six Nations – featuring in their opening 21-15 defeat to France, before a 33-9 win over Ireland, and scoring in a 48-15 victory against Scotland – Chisholm’s aim this year is to secure Worthing’s place in the top flight of the National League.

He said: “It’s good to be back, it’s a nice play to come back to, but we made it tough for ourselves today in the first half, after having a good lead.

“I want to see Worthing stay up as part of my experience here. They’re all good friends of mine and I want to see them stay up.

“We have a couple more big games coming up but this was an important five points.

“I am here this week, then away with England 20s but am back again for the end of the season.”

On his own personal success, he said: “It’s all going really well, it’s been a good year for me. I’ve got a lot of experience and it’s great to come down here. I’m from just up the road and it will be nice to finish it off on a high here, hopefully.

“It was nice to come back from England and work on a few bits and bobs, with some big lads, big men, in a physical league, so I’m pleased with the performance and the win.

“The spirit is really good. The guys are dead keen to stay up, as you would be. They want it bad, they want to work hard, so it’s a nice place to be.”
