A week after ending leaders Henley Hawks’ winning start to the National 2 South season, Worthing defeated second-placed Dorking, who had won 14 successive matches, 32-27.

Raiders remain sixth in the table, 15 points behind both Henley and Dorking, and Dawson said: “I’m really pleased and really proud of the team. It was a fantastic advert for rugby in front of 1,500 people here.

“We beat Henley comfortably last week and we should have been comfortable today if we’d taken some more of our chances.

“It’s been a frustrating first half to the season, with the inconsistency of our team selection, but everyone is fit now and I can’t wait for the second half of the season now.

“Sometimes it’s easier to get up for these top-of-the-table games but we need to really believe now and, if we can play like this against the rest of the league, we should be in the mix come the end of the season.”
