Heartbreak for Amy in Rio
Worthing's Amy Wilson Hardy and Team GB missed out on a medal in the women's rugby sevens event at the Olympics this evening.
After a disappointing 25-7 loss in the semi-finals to New Zealand earlier this evening, Great Britain suffered a 33-10 defeat in the bronze medal match to Canada.
GB had beaten Canada 22-0 in the group stage yesterday but Canada led 26-5 at half-time of the bronze medal match as they ran in two tries late in the half after GB had Emily Scarratt yellow-carded.
GB got a try back after four of the ten minutes in the second half but Canada responded with their fifth try shortly afterwards to all but seal the bronze medal.
Against New Zealand, Wilson Hardy was one of two Great Britain players sinbinned late in the first half as GB trailed 15-7 at half-time.
New Zealand touched down a fourth try early in the second half with GB still down to five players. With Great Britain back up to seven, New Zealand added a fifth try midway through the half.
