Notes from the changing room

UNFORTUNATELY the weather was the victor this weekend as on Friday night Raiders’ trip to Stortford was cancelled.

Heavy snowfall in Hertfordshire has postponed this game until February 28, which was a shame as we were looking to continue the momentum of a brilliant home win against Lydney.

On Saturday morning, the weather again was responsible for the cancellation of the Raiders’ A home game, which was going to provide many members of the squad with some much-needed game time. The weekend off was probably welcome from some of the players, as it gave them an opportunity to catch up on the latest episodes of Geordie Shore and rest the broken bodies.

With this cold weather, it is ideal that we have now started to train at Brighton & Hove Albion’s training ground in Lancing. The £40million purpose-built complex is an outstanding facility in not only Sussex but the south of England.

Saturday sees the visit of Southend to the Rugby Park, which is always a tough fixture.

Raiders were below par in Essex and left comfortably beaten. We expect them to bring a physical game upfront so know that, if we front up and win the battle there, we have the backs to cut them apart and score some points.

It won’t be easy, that’s for sure, their league position is not reflective of the kind of test they will bring. Six Nations on Friday night will provide the perfect start to a rugby weekend, so wrap up warm and get down to Roundstone Lane on Saturday for a 2pm kick-off.

I am in Barcelona for the weekend, so will miss this Raid but know the boys will deliver the goods.

Bonne chance, drill it!
