Raiders cruise to biggest win of the season

It proved to be a comfortable win for Worthing as they touched down their opening try of the National 2 South match after only four minutes. From a line-out, Raiders worked the ball across the field for Kieran Leeming to feed Alex Nielsen and he skipped past the last Lydney player to touch down.

Matt McLean added the extras to make the score 7-0.

Following a brilliant team move, Raiders touched down their second try after just eight minutes as McLean went over and then added the conversion.

Raiders extended their lead after just 15 minutes when Finlay Coxon-Smith burst through and McLean again converted.

Worthing sealed the four-try bonus point on 26 minutes with another superb try. Charlie McGowan stole the ball and fed Jamie Redmayne, who exchanged passes with McLean, before going over. McLean’s conversion made the score 28-0.

Lydney had Anthony Wicks yellow-carded for a deliberate knock-on after 30 minutes but the visitors held on while a man down as the score was 28-0 at the break.

It took Raiders 17 minutes of the second half to get their next try as Ben Loosmore sprinted through to touch down but McLean’s conversion went wide.

Nielsen touched down his second try after a kick over the Lydney defence on 63 minutes but McLean was unable to add the extras.

Lydney got on the scoreboard after 66 minutes when John Rogers went over after a superb solo run.

Raiders then added three more tries in the final seven minutes as Calum Waters, Rob Smith, after a excellent break forward, and Nielsen, for his hat-trick, all went over. McLean converted all three to make the final score 59-5.
