Raiders lose top-of-the-table clash

WORTHING Raiders Rugby Club lost their National 2 South top-of-the-table match 26-22 at Redruth on Saturday (February 2).

Raiders remain top of the table but Redruth, who are now third, closed the gap to eight points and will go top if they take maximum points from their two games in hand.

Second-placed Henley were without a game, while Hartpury College, who at one stage led by 26 points, lost 31-29 at home to Canterbury.

In a see-saw battle at Redruth, Worthing struck first when Oliver Richards went over for a converted try.

Redruth got a try back through Ben Priddey but Worthing kicked a penalty to lead 10-5 at half-time.

Redruth fought back at the start of the second half to take a 19-10 lead but Worthing responded with a converted Kiba Richards try to make it 19-17.

Jack Maslen then went over to give Raiders a 22-17 lead but a late converted try gave Redruth the bonus point win.
