Rocks Review: Rumours are unsettling players

The Rocks have urged to fans to stop spreading rumours about the prospect of their players leaving Nyewood Lane.

The club have been hit by two retirements and two departures since the season started, and there is constant chatter that striker Jason Prior could be tempted away by a Football League club.

The club say rumours and gossip are unsettling the players at a time when togetherness is needed throughout the club.

Secretary Simon Cook said on the club’s fans’ messageboard: “I am constantly amazed by these whispers and rumours.

“None has any basis whatsoever and although we never know what might happen at some stage in the future, I genuinely believe such rumour-mongering can have an unsettling effect on our players.”

Prior has been the subject of much speculation ever since he scored 40-plus goals last season to take the Rocks within a whisker of the title and promotion.

But no club has made an approach for the under-contract star.

A number of fans reacted to Cook’s statement by saying they agreed with his sentiments.
