The 30-year-old is in his ninth season at Roundstone Lane and moved past 1,500 National League points in the defeat at Old Elthamians this month. He admitted he was aware of being close to the total before passing it and said: “I am a bit of a statistician, so did know about it but it’s not something you ever really think of as you go through your career.

“Over the course of time I’ve been fortunate enough to be top points scorer in the league or up there and then you tend to keep an eye on things week by week, so it is crazy to see the sort of points you can score.

“I’m averaging around nine or ten points a game and I’m quite proud of that achievement. It’s not easy to do at any level, particularly in the National League but it’s not something you ever really set out to do.”

On his next targets, McLean said: “I’ve clearly got my sights on the next milestone which is 2,000 points and I think I’m on 159 National League caps with Raiders, so I’d like to reach 200 caps and 2,000 points, that would be nice.

“I think I’ve got a few seasons in me yet. Across my time with the club, I had that long injury which kept me out for the best part of two seasons and I also had a minor injury the second season I was here that kept me out for about a third of the season.

“I might have been verging on 200 games and 2,000 points already otherwise but if I can stay fit, keep myself in the team, keep up the standards I expect of myself as a kicker and get a few tries, hopefully I’ll get those milestones.”
