RUGBY: Worthing captain James Arthur's weekly column (April 8)

ON Saturday, we travelled to second-in-the-league Rosslyn Park with a full-strength side. After our narrow victory at home, we knew they were beatable, but also playing them away would mean that we would have to play a full 80 minutes of rugby and they would want revenge.

The game was built on a solid defensive effort with every player standing up and taking the game to Park.

The desire to get off the floor and make another tackle produced a phenomenal work-rate throughout the game. We played intelligent rugby, both in attack and defence, winning the kicking dual and pinning the Park boys in their own 22, where our defence forced them into mistakes.

We also took our chances well, with Greg Sullivan running some great support lines and scoring twice and Raynn Bruce barging over from close range, after some sustained pressure on the Park line from the forwards.

Over the last few weeks, we have began to fulfil the potential we had promised right from the start of the season.

As a side, we have come together and are enjoying the rugby we are playing. This is down to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaching team. It is important now that we don't sit back and think the job is done. We have some tough fixtures coming up, not least this week against a tough Henley side, who are finding some form again.

After our loss at theirs before Christmas, coincidently after our home victory against Rosslyn Park, I'm sure there will be some scores to settle and I'm sure it will produce an exciting game.

As it is our last home game of the season, there are so many people that the boys and I would like to thank.

It goes without saying that the coaching staff and physio teams have been outstanding this year, helping us to the most successful year in our short time in National 2.

However, it is those that I rarely mention who I would like to take a moment to acknowledge. Firstly, I would like to extend our gratitude to all those that spent hours preparing the pitch and making sure we were able to play through the terrible weather.

Also, a big thank you to Pam and Billie and their team, for keeping us fed and watered throughout the year.

Finally, I would like to thank all our supporters for turning up week after week, no more so than the families, wives and girlfriends that have supported us through a long, tough, season.

We still have four tough fixtures to go and I can assure you that we are not thinking "job done". We want to finish in the best possible way.
