Rugby youngsters roar to victory at Windsor

A team from Worthing Rugby Club’s under-seven Monsters and Dragons won their first tournament of the season earlier this month.

Worthing entered two teams into the tournament at Windsor and the team in pool A won the competition in style.

They won all four of their games in the group as they scored a minimum of five tries a game. In the final, they met Old Guildfordians, who won pool B, and the Worthing youngsters ran in six tries, one of which was a fantastic solo sprint from Jack Owen, to lift the trophy.

The Worthing team was Sam Mason, William Taunton, Charlie Evans, Patrick Nally, Tom Fisher, Leon Morgan, Jack Owen, Josh Ramsden and Nathan Leal. Captain Sam Mason was presented with the trophy by former Wales international and current coach, Rob Howley.

The Pool B side contained youngsters who got their first taste of competitive rugby but the side did well against some tough competition.

They won one game, drew with Amersham & Chiltern 5-5 when Jacob Knowlton touched down four tries, and lost two games, one by just a point.

The pool B side was Jacob Knowlton, Finlay Swann, George Carter, Callum Brown, Hannah Harmer, Kieran Clark, Oliver McGovern, Toby Drake and Henry Everitt.
