Rye see off Newick yet again

Rye Rugby Club made it two wins from two in 2013 on Saturday, winning 15-9 at home to struggling Newick in Sussex One.

It was another game which Rye dominated without being able to kill off their opponents. The deadlock was broken on 20 minutes when a good backs move sent Ben Short clear and he outpaced two Newick players to touch down.

Jamie Moore converted and gave Rye a 10-point half time advantage with a long range penalty. After the break, the visitors came back into the game with three penalties.

With just a point separating the sides, more heavy pressure on the Newick backs saw Rye eventually score again with 15 minutes remaining. A Moore overlap found Gary Edmunds, who raced in.

Despite the missed conversion, Rye stood firm and remained disciplined to pick up another deserved win - their third over Newick this season. See Friday’s Rye Observer for a full report and reaction.
