The 26-year-old will be hoping to improve on the bronze medal she won in Delhi in 2010, when she skipped the triples discipline.

The team lost to South Africa by the narrowest of margins in the semi-final match, which meant they had to fight for a medal against hosts India to prevent returning home with nothing.

This time round, changes to the format of the competition mean Honnor will be competing in two disciplines.

She will again skip the two-bowl triples with former club-mate Sophie Tolchard from Devon at lead and experienced player Ellen Falkner in the middle.

Falkner, from Cambridge-
shire, won a gold medal when she played in the pairs event in India four years ago.

Honnor will also skip the fours discipline with Warwickshire’s Jamie-Lea Winch, who led the Delhi triple, completing the line up at number two.

Devon’s Natalie Melmore will be looking to defend her Commonwealth singles title.

The competition will be played on the lawns at Kelvingrove in Glasgow’s West End, with the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum providing an impressive backdrop.

Honnor, of Storrington, said: “I could not be happier to be selected to represent England at this year’s Commonwealth Games. It seems like a long time ago now that the long list was announced and we have worked hard ever since, both on the bowls green and undertaking psychological profiling and fitness testing.”
