Sidley ace attacked

SIDLEY United forward Mark Funnell will be out of action for up to six weeks after sustaining a fractured wrist when he was attacked on Boxing Day.

The incident happened as he was walking home in Bexhill late at night and is thought to have been an unprovoked attack.

United joint-manager Glen Sully said: "Someone jumped him from behind and hit him. He grazed his head as he hit the deck and that's probably when he fractured his wrist. He got up afterwards to defend himself and the bloke scarpered. He doesn't know why the bloke did it and he had never seen him before.

"I'm not sure exactly how long he will be out because when I talked to him I was more concerned to see how he was, but it will probably be a while."

The news is a blow for United who are looking to get their stop-start season back on track with a win at rock-bottom Littlehampton Town on Saturday January 4.

Adam Day returns from suspension but Chris Copley (knee) and Kevin Rose (suspended) are still missing.
