Sorry night for beaten Sidley

SIDLEY United endured a miserable night on Tuesday as they crashed 2-1 away to Redhill in the Sussex League.

The long midweek journey to Surrey with a depleted squad was one thing, but a listless performance on the field only accentuated the problems. The evening was topped off by thick fog which meant they didn't arrive home until past midnight.

Joint manager Andy Laskey said: "We were very, very poor to be honest. It was very disappointing especially after Saturday's performance. This was a good chance to get three points away from home and push on into the top half of the table. We should have been able to beat them comfortably."

The Blues fell behind when the only partially opposed Graves headed in a 22nd minute corner.

Sidley responded almost immediately when Kevin Rose lobbed the ball home delightfully from all of 25 yards after Dave Carey had been denied by the home keeper.

But the game continued in the same scrappy vein and Redhill reassumed control five minutes after the break when Chris Copley competed for the ball with two players and Dean emerged in possession to slot past Rob Wiley.

Jordan Wood missed a sitter in the last five minutes and Iain Smith was then sent off for twice politely asking the referee to clarify his decision when awarding free kicks to Redhill after originally pointing in Sidley's favour.

Laskey added: "The referee and one linesman were the worst I've seen this season but that wasn't why we lost."

Sidley entertain Pagham on Saturday December 13 before visiting Eatbourne Town on Wednesday.
