SUSSEX RIFLE SHOOTER'S SUCCESS

SUSSEX had some consolation at Bisley in the National Rifle Association Inter Counties Rifle Meeting when Jane Messer won the opening event.

However, the team performance faded after a solid start.

Hopes were high at the weekend that a strong Sussex team could take podium places at the National Rifle Association's Inter Counties Meeting at Bisley.

Skipper Alan Fitch picked his team of ten with Jane Messer and Jon Cload taking the wind coaching stools with all eight shooters having national or international experience at senior or junior level.

But on Saturday morning it was Hailsham's Messer, one of the trio of Sussex shots who will be in Canada this year as a member of the British World Championship squad, that led the way in the preliminary opening competition, the R Jarvis.

In blustery winds and squalls of rain, which were to give everyone a soaking during the day, she put all fifteen of her shots at 300 yards into the bullseye with 14 of them in the smaller tie-breaking central ring to take the trophy in a field of over 250 competitors.
