Thunder coach Daniel Hildreth had tried to get Wilkins to the club for the last couple of seasons and is pleased to have finally got his man.

Wilkins is the latest to sign up for the club for the new season, after Tom Ward, Tomas Seduikis, Brendan Okoronkwo, Joe Carter and Dom Baker.

Hildreth said: “I’m really pleased that we have managed to acquire the services of John for the upcoming season.

“He has most recently played for Team Solent in Division 3. John is a big body and a very fundamentally sound centre.

“I have known John for many years and in each of my seasons as head coach have tried to get John to play at Worthing.

“We have been missing true size from our domestic players and I expect John to excel in this league as he has a good basketball IQ and a team-orientated mentality.

“Already in pre-season, John has gelled well with the guys, which is another credit to his personality.”

American Rory Spencer, who played for Thunder last season, has joined a team in Ecuador for the upcoming campaign.

Thunder begin their pre-season programme at home to a USA Select team on September 6, before a friendly against Surrey United on September 13.
