Thunder ready for Warriors clash

WORTHING Thunder Basketball Club will be looking to secure their second EBL win of the season on Saturday when they travel to the Moberly Sports Centre to take on Westminster Warriors.

Coach Gary Smith is happy with how preparations have gone thus far and with newest acquisition Hank Rivers leading Thunder’s scoring with 23 points in their win over Derby Trailblazers last weekend, Smith is pleased that the new American has settled in quickly, but not surprised.

He said: “It isn’t a big shock that Hank settled in for me as he’s trained with us over the summer and that he has lived here for a while anyway.

“The main thing I’m happy about is that he has quickly adapted to the style of basketball here in the EBL again and that all he wants to do is win.”

Worthing will look to make it two wins on the spin when they take on a Westminster Warriors who pushed Thunder all the way when these two teams met in the EBL Trophy in the first week of October, where Vinnie Darpino three in the last second secured a 79-78 success.

Smith said: “Westminster are a tough team who will give 100 per cent every time they’re on the floor, regardless of how much they lost to Reading by, they will be a solid opponent for us.

“We’ve got to build on our performance last week against Derby, understand what we’ve been running in practice, and that we all have to give it our all on the defensive end and we’ll be fine.”

Tip-off on Saturday is at 6pm.
