Thunder sign American Bell

WORTHING Thunder Basketball Club have signed American forward Terrell Bell for the remainder of the season.

Bell, a 6ft 7in Atlanta native who played NCAA Division 1 basketball at Virginia Tech, comes to the south coast from the Midura Mavericks in Australia, where he averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds in 19 games played. The forward has also had a spell in the Finnish Korisliiga.

Worthing Thunder coach Daniel Hildreth is pleased with his new recruit, and confirmed that Bell is available for today’s EBL Division 1 game at Bradford Dragons (6.15pm).

He said: “I’m really excited to have Terrell join the team.

“We have had numerous games with key players missing this season and we just need a little stability. I was mostly impressed with Terrell’s mindset and I think he will compliment the team greatly. Obviously, he will need a bit of time to settle but coming from such a big school and with his high basketball IQ, I’m sure it won’t take long.”

Bell is looking forward to the new challenge and says that his situation here in England is similar to the one he faced in Australia.

He said: “I’m happy to be here at Worthing Thunder.

“This is kind of similar to the Australian job that I just came from and I think it will be great and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.

“I want to guide Worthing as far as possible and hope we can win things. I’m just looking forward to the experience.”
