Thunder tip off league season against Bristol

WORTHING Thunder tip off their league season on Saturday night when they take on the current EBL Division 1 champions Bristol Academy Flyers at the Worthing Leisure Centre.

Having returned to the EBL after three seasons in the British Basketball League, Thunder face probably their toughest test to begin their home fixtures this season.

Thunder got their season off to a nervy, but victorious start when they defeated Team Solent 74-73 last Sunday evening.

Thunder coach Gary Smith was a relieved man after their late 74-73 over Team Solent in the EBL Cup on Sunday and is aware of the danger that the Flyers will bring on Saturday night.

He said: “Bristol is an extremely dangerous side and a team that are very well organised too, so this is a great test for us, no doubt about it.

“We’re still getting ourselves adjusted into the EBL again, and we know we are in for a lot of tough games this year. Playing Bristol early will be a great test for my guys.”

American Chris Talley, who led Thunder with 16 points in the win against Solent is prepared for the visit of the champions, and added: “We got to play hard and play as a team.

“We’ve been working hard in practice, working on plays and executing a little better. We’re aware of Bristol and what they bring, I’m looking forward to it.”

Tip-off this Saturday is at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7 for adults, under-16s are £5, and family tickets are also available for £20 and £24.
