The win was Raiders’ third on the bounce after an opening-day defeat to Clifton and lifted them a place to eighth in the table.

Dawson: “I’m really happy with the performance. Up front, it was an awesome display and our defence was outstanding.

“The boys know this is the type of performance they need to take forward now. We said in the huddle afterwards that it’s just one game against a team low on confidence but the work we do on a Tuesday and Thursday in training is paying off.

“We’d played like that in fits and starts in our previous three games. Today, we made a conscious effort to stay to the game plan and do what we’ve been doing at training and it was a great performance.

“We’re a little disappointed that we didn’t get to 50 points as that would have made a big statement.”

Worthing also have players to still return and Dawson said: “We lost a lot of games early on last season and it was a terrible start.

“It was pleasing today, especially as we’ve still got reinforcements to come. We were without Alex Nielsen, Liam Perkins and Jamie Redmayne went off early.

“We’ve still got Rob Smith in the background and it was great to see Charlie McGowan here watching today, Hopefully, they’ll both play as and when we need them and seeing a great performance like that will help.”

Worthing travel to second-from-bottom Redingensians on Saturday.
