World champ stars at big darts night

WORLD CHAMPION Tony David was the star of the show at a pre-Christmas professional darts extravaganza at the Atha Showbar in Bexhill on Saturday.

The Australian picked up 1,000 after beating local favourite Shayne "The Bulldog" Burgess 3-2 in the Ashdown Hurrey-sponsored tussle, the showpiece of four head-to-head winner-takes-all matches promoted by Eurodarts Promotions.

The Viking Andy Fordham also took home 1,000 after seeing off National CIU Winner Dennis "Breezer Geezer" Smith 3-0 in a best of five sets match.

The other two matches, which had 500 up for grabs, were won by Mark Dudbridge who saw off American No.1 Ray Carver 2-0 and Lewis professional Reg Harding who also triumphed 2-0 against fellow top-32 ranked Mick Manning.

Event organiser Paul Butler said: "It was an absolutely fantastic evening and everyone was stunned by the quality of the darts."
