Worthing water polo team swim 100k

WORTHING Swimming Club's water polo team successfully swam more than 100 kilometres in a 24-hour period to raise funds for their National League campaign and for Cancer Research UK.

A total of 29 members of Worthing Swimming Club swam in a relay format for 24 hours straight.

Water polo coach Alastair Roberts Said: “This was a tremendous team effort, both physically and mentally. We hope to raise more than £850 for Cancer Research UK, surpassing the total for last year’s channel swim.

“A special mention goes to captain Richard Hooper, Nathan Hart, John Gray and Ben Alcorn, who were involved for the entire 24 hours – an outstanding achievement.”

In total, they swam 3,276 lengths of the Aquarena which is 109,189 meters, and did one length every 26.37 Seconds.

Worthing, who are the current Sussex and South-East ASA champions, thank the Aquarena staff and management for their support with the staffing and use of the facility.

The British Water Polo League is the UK’s premier competition and fees to enter and travel around the country are high, although the team recently secured a sponsorship deal from Worthing-based Coastal Solar & Gas Ltd.
