Spokeswoman Jan Summers said: “The choir, singing in performance masks and socially distanced, sang a variety of seasonal music including God Rest You Merry Gentlemen, Joy to the World, Ding Dong Merrily On High and ended by singing a lively We Wish You A Merry Christmas. A large crowd gathered around to enjoy the live singing and applauded with enthusiasm as they enjoyed the carols.

“The choir has continued to rehearse throughout the pandemic, singing in their homes, on Zoom, with Helen accompanying on the piano and singing all voice parts where needed! Well attended quiz nights have been held, also on Zoom, organised by the choir social secretary.”

They are now all looking forward to 2021 when they can rehearse together, and once again perform in live concerts for the people of Worthing, Jan added.

The choir is a member of the National Association of Choirs.

There are about 70 singers in the choir, which was founded in November 1969 by Paul and Jacky Emery. The following year they performed their first carol concert in the Assembly Hall, Worthing.

The choir celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019.

The choir is now under the baton of Helen Emery and prides itself on its varied repertoire. They sing carols at Christmas and everything from Mozart to Queen – something to suit all tastes.
