Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (PS3/360/Wii) - review

The autumn gaming season gets off to a swinging start for fans of a certain wall-crawling superhero.

Not only is there a new Spider-Man game to enjoy, but it has four times the Spidey!

Our hero is on the trail of the Tablet of Order and Chaos, which has broken into pieces and been scattered throughout four parallel dimensions. It’s up to each world’s version of Spider-Man to put reality back together before the whole universe is ruined forever!

The game starts with Amazing Spider-Man, the superhero we’re all familiar with. He swings and bashes bad guys with his webs, and dresses in that natty red and blue suit we all know and love. Ultimate Spider-Man lives one dimension over, and he’s wearing the black alien symbiote costume. This lets him lash out with gooey tentacles and build up powerful rage attacks.

Pop over to the next dimension and you find Spider-Man Noir, who lives in a gloomy 1930s gangster world. Gameplay in this universe is all about stealth and striking from the shadows. Finally there’s Spider-Man 2099, from a distant future world of towering skyscrapers and cyber-

threats.

It’s not just the gameplay that changes for each dimension. Each world has its own graphical style while different voice actors, from the many Spider-Man cartoons, have been brought in to play the different Spideys.

Constantly mashing your way through waves of enemies can get a little bit boring after a while, so it’s a good thing the game offers loads of cool boss fights against new versions of Spidey’s classic foes. Green Goblin, Scorpion, Juggernaut, Vulture and more are all waiting to put an end to your adventure, and you’ll need to make the most of all your spider-powers to beat them.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is definitely a weird game, and some fans might wish they’d just stuck with the classic red and blue version of the character.

If you like superhero action, and don’t mind the idea of mixing things up a little, it’s a comic book blast.
