CAMARADERIE, sportsmanship and spirit helped everyone go home happy at the Worthing Filipino community’s first sporting event.

Held at Davison Leisure Centre last month (August 18), the day was hailed a success by organiser Earl Leonardia, who said he did not expect such a good turnout.

The day featured five different sporting tournaments. The darts tournament was won by Jojo Tan, table tennis was taken by Sherwin Italia, the yellow team took victory in badminton while the blue team triumphed in basketball.

The volleyball competition was split into men’s and women’s events, with the blue team taking the top spot in the men’s, and the white team in the women’s.

Talking about the day, Earl said: “It was highly participated by the Worthing Filipino community members – it was really good.

“I was actually overwhelmed by the outcome of it. It’s the first time we have initiated and organised it.

“The people were able to demonstrate spirit, sportsmanship and camaraderie, which was the basic intention of the sports festival. Everyone went home happy.”
