COMEDY: Dinnerladies comes to Worthing's Connaught Theatre

VICTORIA Wood's hit TV sitcom Dinnerladies comes to the stage for the first time in a major national tour featuring some of the cast of the original series.

The play, coming to Worthing's Connaught Theatre from March 30 to April 4, is based on the second TV series and follows the reluctant love story of Bren and Tony, originally played by Victoria Wood and Andrew Dunn.

Andrew re-creates his TV role in the stage version as the couple are egged-on by their work colleagues, Dolly, Jean, Twinkle and Anita, the slightly dippy character brilliantly brought to life on stage by Shobna Gulati, who played her in the TV show.

Making frequent hilarious appearances are caretaker Stan, Phillippa from Human Resources, secretary Jane and Bren's truly dreadful mother, Petula, played originally by Julie Walters.

Both Victoria Wood and director David Graham were concerned that the touring cast and production should bear a very close resemblance to the well-loved TV series and this is exactly what has happened, with a strong, experienced cast re-creating some of the best-drawn sitcom characters on television and delivering some of the funniest lines.

Dinnerladies will be staged daily at 7.30pm with matines Wednesday at 2pm and Saturday 2.30pm. Tickets: 13 to 22.
