Journey with Beethoven

PAUL LEWIS continues his journey through Beethoven's 32 Piano Sonatas at Hove's Old Market on Sunday, March 25 at 11am.

His Master Piano Series III includes in this concert In The Round, the 'Les Adieux' Sonata.

This pictorially recalls Beethoven's reaction and feelings when his friend, as well as patron and pupil, the Archduke Rudolph, the youngest brother of the emperor, took his members of the Imperial family fleeing from Vienna in April 1809 when Austria declared war on France.

It records his farewell ('Adieux'), his absence, and his return - almost depicted as though Rudolph was heading back along the roads to Vienna on horseback.

Lewis concludes the morning with this Beethovens Sonata No 26 in Eb. The programme begins with No 5 in c minor (Opus 10 No 1), then covers No 7 in D (Op 10 No 3) and the witty No 6 in F (Opus 10 No 2).

Box Office 01273 736222.

Tickets may be available on the morning.

Lewis' remaining concert in this comes up on May 27.
