Fronted by Danny O’Reilly, The Coronas were recently uprooted from their Ireland homes and moved to the bright lights and big city of London after signing to Island Records.

Now on the last leg of their UK tour, the band are just beginning to break the surface on this side of the Irish Sea.

But they were not alone, as loyal fans from Ireland, and also a scatter from Holland, had made the ambitious journey to see the five-piece band at the Komedia in Gardner Street last night, March 31.

With a fourth album under their belts, the intimate venue was treated to tracks from ‘The Long Way’, which shot to no.2 in the Irish charts.

Clapping, chanting, whoops and all other manner of noises stretched from the crowd, led by an enthusiastic Danny who appeared to recharge on the good vibes.

Old favourites Heroes of Ghosts and San Diego Song, along with brand new tracks were familiar with fans who shouted the lyrics.

In a final burst of energy, Danny jumped into the crowd for the last song and high-fived a sprout of hands.

After the gig Danny mingled with the crowd – it is admirable to see him give people a chance to take pictures and ask questions.

Next stop will be The Coronas’ biggest UK gig yet tonight at KOKO London.
