POETRY AND PROSE: In Bramber

STARS of stage and screen will take part in an afternoon of poetry and prose.

Gwyneth Powell and Alan Leith will visit St Mary's House, in The Street, Bramber, at 3pm on Saturday, August 21, for In the English Poetry Garden.

After the readings, the audience will be able to view the current exhibition of poetry in Peter Thorogood's Poetry Garden.

The Poetry Garden forms part of the restored Victorian secret garden at St Mary's House and has a bust of Lord Byron as its centrepiece.

A strawberry tea will be served on the main lawns of the house and there will be a performance by Sompting Village Morris.

Gwyneth Powell is well-known for her role as Mrs McClusky in the long-running BBC television series, Grange Hill.

She has also appeared in Heartbeat, The Enigma Files, A Touch of Frost and Father Brown.

Alan Leith has appeared in numerous major roles on the national stage.
