REVIEW: Honk! in Worthing

FARMYARD frolics proved poultry in motion for Worthing Light Opera Company with their production of award-winning musical Honk!

The talented cast brought the stage to life for an entertaining afternoon, delighting both young and old in the audience.

Young Will Bone took the lead and proved mature beyond his years in his portrayal of Ugly, while Veryan Jennings used her experience to bring warmth and a little bit of fun to Ida, the mother duck.

I would have liked to have seen a little bit more animal action '“ the attempts to bring animal characteristics to the parts didn't quite go far enough, I thought.

Apart from that, it was a fantastic production, with Jonathan Wardle's camp Cat and Charlie Van Nimwegen's jolly Bullfrog two of the particular favourites.

Director was Patricia Roberts and there was some clever staging, particularly with the changing seasons and the onset of winter.

The musical numbers, under the direction of Julie Mackrill, were delivered with panache and Carolyn Bennett's choreography added the usual delightful dance numbers.
