REVIEW: The Solid Silver 60s Show, Assembly Hall, Worthing

THE bus pass brigade (us included) were transported back to an era when we tuned into Radio Luxembourg and let a drink in a coffee bar last all evening listening to the juke box.

The big attraction was the Solid Silver 60s Show, which packed Worthing's Assembly Hall, when pensioners entertained pensioners for three hours.

Back in the '60s, we gyrated to the unforgettable music of the likes of The Searchers, Wayne Fontana, The Merseybeats, John Walker (part of the Walker Brothers) and The Dakotas.

Back then it would have been inconceivable to think of all that fantastic talent on the same stage together in one evening.

But it's happening now as they tour the country.

The packed audience at the Assembly Hall rose to their feet and gyrated as the years were stripped from them and for a short time, they were transported back to remember the best of their teenage years.

One woman old enough to be a great-grandmother got so carried away, her dentures fell out as she danced away to The Searchers' Don't Throw Your Love Away.

This was the stuff of pure nostalgia '“ remembering the tunes of an era when British music ruled the airwaves and we all sang Rule Britannia with total pride (yes, we did that, too).

A glorious evening, singing along to all time greats like Needles and Pins, Game of Love, Wishin' and Hopin' and Make it Easy on Yourself.

Listening to that splendid music it seemed like only yesterday I was pouring my sixpenses into the juke box at the Starlight Roof Club coffee bar to listen to those fantastic sounds!
