ROPETACKLE: What's on this week

Ullaloom Theatre Company, Liverpool's horror specialists, tonight (Thursday, March 19) present a macabre fairytale for adults.

Based upon the legend of Bluebeard, and with echoes of Angela Carter, and Michael Powell's film Peeping Tom, the Dark Room is a tragic love story, with moments of pathos, horror and magic.

Against the backdrop of a Victorian photographers studio, The Dark Room allows us to glimpse the blossoming love affair between William and Rose.

William is illustrating a children's fairytale book with beautiful, yet haunting photographs, but who are the ladies in these photos?

Can Rose resist temptation, or will she sneak a peek in the forbidden Dark Room?

Doors 7pm. Play 7.30pm Tickets 10 (8 concessions). Bar.

The powerful trio Bass Culture play at Ropetackle tomorrow night.

Jamaican-born Mikey "Dread" Bowes features on drums, West Indian vibesman Paul "Babilonda" Emile is on bass and Jimmy "Riff" Brew plays guitar.

The multi-influenced hiphop, funk, reggae and roots outfit will be playing material from their forthcoming album and will also feature special guests.

Barnstormers Comedy is back on Saturday, March 21, with more rib-tickling fun for the new season.

Zoe Lyons (left), Martin Coyote and Will Smith are on the bill.

Entertainers will be displaying their skills, mainly Jongleurs, Komedia and Comedy Store regulars.

Resident compre Kevin Precious introduces three different acts and the varied bill ensures there is never a dull moment.

There's plenty of bawdy content, too, so it's over-18s only, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
